25 Feb “1+1=1” project has just been launched!
Time to resolve the mysteries of photosymbiosis with new models and new techniques! The new project “1+1=1” funded by Human Frontier Sciences Program (HFSP) and led by Photosymbiosis Team (Johan DECELLE, Edmée ROYEN and Fabien CHEVALIER) has started in December 2025. HFSP promotes international collaboration in basic research focused on the elucidation of the sophisticated and complex mechanisms of living organism.
“1+1=1” project aims at bioengineering synthetic symbiosis to illuminate how a microalga becomes an endosymbiont using Paramecium bursaria as a host model.
In order to start this international collaboration between Michigan State University (USA), Jülich University (Germany), and LPCV (France), all the stakeholders gathered 2 days in the Vercors mountains (France). This kickoff meeting has been a fruitful scientific emulation, and gave solid foundations to start the project!
